Waste To Energy, What, How and Where?

Bismillah
Assalamua'alaikum and Happy New Year to everyone.
Good Bye 2015 and Welcome 2016.
this is my first post for 2016 and I hope from this day on wards may all of my dreams will come true. All right people, last year, I have written an entry about 3 ways to treat solid waste at home
and this will be the continiuity of that entry. I had promise you guys about WTE technology in that entry, so let's start.
As you'll know,  we dumped garbage at least 30 million tons of domestic waste, and it will keep increasing throughout the years as all of us are used to throw everything into the rubbish. Therefore, the government had discover a new method for reducing land dumping of waste and also reduced the odor problem from the garbage that are mainly methane gas (dangerous gas for human). Thus, they discovered Waste to Energy method.
Basically, WTE used inceneration process but the difference is that, they utilize the the municipal waste instead of oil or natural gas as their fuel.
According to Covanta.com, it said that Waste to Energy facilities offer a safe, technologically advanced means of waste disposal while also generating clean, renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting recycling through the recovery of metals.

Based to a 2012 whitepaper released by Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), energy-from-waste facilities "are economically sound investments that provide multiple financial and environmental benefits to the communities that utilize them."

Waste-to-energy plants recover the thermal energy contained in the trash in highly efficient boilers that generate steam that can then be sold directly to industrial customers, or used on-site to drive turbines for electricity production.

In Malaysian, WTE just got the chance to start but in the oversea, such as Europe and US, they have been using this method at long time ago. According to the Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants (CEWEP), Europe currently treats 50 million ton of wastes at waste-to-energy plants each year, generating an amount of energy that can supply electricity for 27 million people or heat for 13 million people.
This are some of the mini WTE plants in Malaysia, and I hope that this plant will also expand the services around Sabah and Sarawak too.
The Significant of WTE:
While some still confuse modern waste-to-energy plants with incinerators of the past, the environmental performance of the industry is beyond reproach. Studies have shown that communities that employ waste-to-energy technology have higher recycling rates than communities that do not utilize waste-to-energy. The recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from waste-to-energy plants for recycling is strong and growing each year. In addition, numerous studies have determined that waste-to-energy plants actually reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that enter the atmosphere. WTE plants are highly efficient in harnessing the untapped energy potential of organic waste by converting the biodegradable fraction of the waste into high calorific value gases like methane. The digested portion of the waste is highly rich in nutrients and is widely used as biofertilizer in many parts of the world.

The Feedstock of WTE;
as the WTE fuel, it does not matters what types of solid waste that it used, as long as it solid waste from the agriculture, animal, forestry waste, Industrial Waste, Municipal Solid Waste, Sewage and Blacl liqor(waste from wood)
Therefore, it is important for us to segregate the types of waste that we dump in our rubbish bin, because from the types of feedstock of WTE, there are no plastic allowed in their feedstock of WTE. We have learn wha is WTE, and it's significant of WTE plus the feedstock of WTE. Now, I hope that Malaysian will know their role as consumers of products and know how to segregate the rubbish according to their types.
Let's built a healthy environment and make sure to use 3R's method for the undegradable rubbish.
